What the petition asks
This petition calls for the suspension of any political, economic, social or other actions arising from the result of the UK referendum on membership of the EU (2016) on the grounds the referendum is in breach of the ‘Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982’.Consumers have basic legal rights if:
Given a misleading description
Are of an unsatisfactory quality
Not fit for its intended purpose
Further, the law gives protection against unfair 'selling' practices and services by “business” that include ‘…the activities of any government department or local or public authority’ (Part III – section 18).
Specifically, but not exclusively, the spirit of section 3.2 of the Act ‘In such a case there is an implied condition that the goods will correspond with the description.’ is arguable.
