Misinformation has damaged and divided our nation. We demand an enquiry.

What the petition asks

The undersigned call for an independent public enquiry, led by the Chair of the UK Statistics Office, into the wide-spread use of misinformation that dominated the EU Referendum campaign, misled voters and damaged our Parliamentary democracy.
During the campaign politicians and media used inaccurate or misleading statistics to promote their cause. The most blatant was Leave campaign’s claim that £350M per week savings would be added to the NHS budget. It was criticised by UK Statistics Office as misleading. Despite this, Leave continued to use the claim. If either side of the debate knowingly mislead voters on such an important issue they must be held publicly to account.
