What the petition asks

The recent EU referendum is only the latest in a line of political campaigns in which both sides have misinformed the public to gain votes. We need an independent body to hold politicians to account and ensure the public have the opportunity to make informed decisions.

The Brexit campaign has been marred by misinformation and manipulation of facts on both sides. Here are just a few examples:

Vote Remain:
Cameron would invoke Article 50 immediately and start countdown
Emergency budget would be required with increased austerity
Leaving will put 3 million jobs at risk (based on 15 yr old estimate)

Vote Leave:
EU costs the UK £350m a week
Turkey to join the EU imminently
False certainty over immigration controls
