Petition · past parliament

Large companies should be able to answer a customer call within 5 minutes.

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

Large modern companies (and utilities companies in particular) are only interested in two things: one, setting up customers on a Direct Debit payment plan; two, creating an online experience with the sole aim of keeping customers away from the human beings at the end of a telephone.
Please do not let these companies get away with this. If each large company (£1m+ turnover) was fined, per customer, for each call to customer service which was unanswered after 5 minutes, then they would pretty quickly improve things. For younger people, who can operate websites fairly easily, the situation is barely tolerable; but for the elderly, waiting on a phone for hours, it must be very upsetting, leaving customers feeling powerless and neglected with little recourse if things go wrong.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
