Make hitting a cat with a vehicle and leaving the scene a criminal offence

Rejected 20 signatures

What the petition asks

It is a criminal offence if one hits a dog with a car and drives off. But to do so to a cat is completely fine.
2 years ago I found my cat dead outside my house and it tore me apart. It was very traumatic. Nobody should have to go through this. They are just as much a family member as a dog.
Hundreds of cats are killed and left by the roadside each year. Why should this be allowed? Why are cats not as much of an animal as dogs? Why should owners have to find their bloodied animals, their family pets, their loved ones dead on the side of the road? They shouldn't! It's time for a change.
