Petition · past parliament

Declare the 1975 EEC referendum null and void and reclaim all contributions.

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Nothing of loss of sovereignty and greater political union with what became the EU by stealth was mentioned to voters before the 1975 referendum was held. The result to remain was based on too little information given to voters and there could have been different result had we known all the facts.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Referendums are advisory only in the UK - they are not legally binding. The 1975 referendum is not the legal basis for payments to the EU or its predecessor organisations. It's therefore not clear what action you want the Government to take, or the basis on which you want them to act, in order to reclaim all contributions paid to Europe.

If you wanted to start a new petition asking for the 1975 referendum to be declared a nullity due to a lack of public information, we might be able to accept a petition about that.
