What the petition asks
Arts education for young people continues to be subject to yearly cuts. Arts tuition outside of school education is costly, but now necessary to provide sufficient learning opportunities for talented children. This is inaccessible to many families. Help end the elitism and value the arts.
UK government prioritises "core" subjects (Maths, English, Sciences, Language, History Geography) by way of the EBacc performance measure: http://bit.ly/1QiubcJ Whereas these subjects should be valued, it's at the expense of arts subjects.
What is being asked here is a small contribution to arts education, that would actually help boost the economy at the same time. The Warwick Commission estimates the arts sector represents 5% of the British economy valued at £76.9bn: http://bit.ly/1EJWbkV
