UK government must remain committed to the European Convention on Human Rights

Closed 668 signatures

What the petition asks

We, the undersigned believe that The European Convention on Human Rights should be accepted as the minimum standard for Human Rights in the UK with the European Court of Human Rights as the final arbiter.
If Human Rights are defined solely by the UK government then Human Rights can be removed from any group unpopular with that government at any time. The European Convention on Human Rights is designed to protect us from oppressive governments and its importance and necessity have not disappeared.
