What the petition asks
There has been a previous successful petition asking for the government to use the term Daesh when talking about the radical terrorist group. It is time for the media to follow suit.
Why should this be?
Why should this be?
The benefits of such change would cut the ties of the group to any religion and their so called state, de-politicising them. The government has already expressed their views on the 'evil death cult' that 'is neither a true representation of Islam nor a state' To change the name the UK Government uses for IS, ISIS and ISIL to DAESH Referring to them as IS, ISIL etc. only furthers their influence and helping their cause. They need to be condemned not publicised.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
This is a matter for media editors, about their editorial guidelines, and not for Parliament or Government. You could contact media organisations directly to make this suggestion.
