What the petition asks
At the moment the rules for receiving Carer's Allowance states that you cannot earn more than £110 per week. If the government changed the rules to specify someone in receipt of CA can only work a certain number of hours instead it would be a lot more fair.
£110 divided by £7.20 (minimum wage) = 15 hours (approx)
£110 divided by £9.50 = 11.5 hours (approx)
Therefore someone on a lower wage is clearly disadvantaged, because they have to work longer hours to earn the weekly allowance. This then means that the disabled person is disadvantaged by not having their carer present.
If the rules state you can work 15 hours it would be much fairer to all carers.
