Create a Ministerial position for the Self Employed

Closed 253 signatures

What the petition asks

There are almost 4.8 million self employed people in the UK who have no direct representation in Government. Whilst there is a Minister for Small Business (which is applauded), the needs of the self employed, in many cases, are very different to even small employers.
This needs to be addressed
Areas that need addressing include (but are not limited to):

- The need for a 'self employed bank account' - A simple transactional account
- Affordable financial services - Realistically priced income protection and medical cover should be introduced.
- The levelling of the playing field in terms of maternity and paternity
- Increased Pension provision - employees are being encouraged to enrolled into a Workplace Pension. What is the sole trader equivalent?

What else can you add?
