What the petition asks
The murder of Sophie Lancaster in 2007 was not just an attack on a human being but an attack on a whole community of ‘alternative’ subcultures and leniency is inappropriate in order to send a strong message that such pointless hatred is unacceptable in our society

Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The responsibility for release on licence or parole in individual cases rests ultimately with the Secretary of State for Justice, to whom parole boards are answerable, and not the Government as a whole.
