What the petition asks
Make bus travel free to 16-19 year olds that live in rural areas. So they can get to higher education without being at a disadvantage now the government have set the school leaving age to 18.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Bus fares are not set by the UK Government. Local bus operators (bus companies) are free to set their own fares. However, local transport authorities (usually local councils) have the power to set maximum fares in some circumstances.
