What the petition asks
We the undersigned object to section 21 (1) of the Bus Services Bill 2016 as it stops local authorities from having the freedom to form municipal bus companies and we want this clause erased from the final bill.
The bill can be viewed at http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/lbill/2016-2017/0058/lbill_2016-20170058_en_1.htm
Authorities should have the ability to set up municipal bus companies. It is essential that councils have the power to best meet the transport needs of citizens, for example cities with Mayors should be allowed to follow the model laid out by Transport For London.
Carefully considered, reliable and affordable public transport is essential to modern life.
