Expel the US military personnel from the UK.

Rejected 11 signatures

What the petition asks

Magna Carta guarantees the removal of foreign forces following the restoration of peace.

On 19 May 1941 American forces entered the UK to fight Nazi Germany.
On 30 April 1945 Adolf Hitler killed himself.
On 8 November 2016 American forces still occupied 10 bases.

Magna Carta Clause (51) As soon as peace is restored, we will remove from the kingdom all the foreign knights, bowmen, their attendants, and the mercenaries that have come to it, to its harm, with horses and arms.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We could accept a petition calling for the Government to expel US military personnel from the UK, but we are not clear what you would like to happen with regard to the Magna Carta. The legal basis for the US Visiting Force in the United Kingdom is primarily the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Status of Forces Agreement of 1951 (SOFA) and the Visiting Forces Act of 1952. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
