What the petition asks
For too long climate change has been a secondary consideration, yet it is the defining challenge of our time. I call on the government to create a separate department and minister of state for climate change, and to make climate change a central consideration of all future policy-making decisions.
We must rapidly increase investment in research and technologies to understand climate science, realise new technologies, quickly decarbonise our economy and increase our resillience to future uncertainty. This can wait no longer. We need strong leadership from this government. Even the possibility of accelerating climate change should shock us out of complacency.
