What the petition asks
Recent events such as the burning of poppies during the remembrance parades have caused anger and division in our society. Such acts are offensive to the majority of UK citizens and are completely unacceptable in a civilised society such as ours.
The burning or desecration of any of the UK National flags is deeply offensive to a large majority of UK citizens as is burning or destroying of poppies during the period when such symbols are worn to honour the fallen. We, the petitioners demand that such acts be classed as hate crimes and that the offenders be prosecuted accordingly under the appropriate legislation.
