Make it a legal requirement for travel time to be paid when part of the job

Closed 261 signatures

What the petition asks

In home care industry and possibly many other jobs, the travel time for the job is not always paid.
Carers are getting up early in the morning for shifts starting even at 6am and working until 14:00/15:00. The same carers will return to work typically 2 hours later, to finish their jobs after 22:00
This makes for most home carers really long shifts and they are only being paid the time they are at the clients, not the time spent to travel between their clients, which according to gov.uk is also working time.

Imagine being out of your home for more than 12 hours for the job and be paid for 7-8 hours (at best). This pushes the quality of life to a low end.

It should be a legal requirement to pay the travel time at the worker’s normal rate of pay. This should include travel time to and from home if the place of work is not a fixed one.
