Petition · past parliament

Keep animal fat (Tallow) in new £5 notes. Changing would waste money.

Rejected 19 signatures

What the petition asks

We want to keep the tallow that is in the £5 notes as to change this would cost unnecessary spending. In the short term it would cost to get the brand new affected notes out of circulation and long term we would have to use a more expensive material. It is a natural substance and is biodegradable

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Bank notes are the responsibility of the Bank of England, which is independent of the Government and Parliament.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to urge the Bank of England not to change the content of £5 notes.
