What the petition asks
Innocence. The innocence of a baby or child should be cherished. But not all think that way. Some people see that innocence as their's to take. They neglect, ill-treat and assault. We've all read the stories, cried and screamed in disbelief at the sentences. It is time to do something about it.
Cruelty to a child under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 s.1 carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment. It includes a range of offences; neglect, abandonment, assault and cruelty, whether carried out once or numerous times. Children who this Act is meant to protect will never get their stolen innocence back and they get no justice with a maximum sentence of 10 years for those who stole it. The maximum sentence for those found guilty of child cruelty needs to be increased.
