Introduce online voting in elections allowing more people to engage in democracy

Closed 479 signatures

What the petition asks

Vote online using NI numbers to identify people. A unique code could be sent at registration that would then be entered along with their NI Number to secure the process. Email confirmation could be sent after voting as a security measure. This allows people to vote if out of their constituency.
Only 36% of 18-24 year olds voted in the last referendum, and only 66% of the electorate voted in the general election in 2015.

Younger voters are often moving around the country and unable to be at their polling station on polling day, as often they register at university only to find that they are back home at the other side of the country come polling day.

Online voting would solve this issue and could also remind people to vote on polling day.
