What the petition asks
The 2017 changes will damage the car industry and buyer of both new and used cars from April 2017. The changes do nothing to encourage manufacturers to improve efficiency and do nothing to encourage buyers to buy more fuel and emissions efficient cars. Changes are a retrograde step
The details of the new rates are available on gov website - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/534511/ved-reform-briefing-for-motor-industry.pdf
This change increases costs for drivers ;
First year tax from £0 for cars between 1 and 130g/km CO2 to between £10 and £160.
It increases annual cost for these cars from £20-£110 to £140 for all
Adds a £310 premium on top where list price is over £40,000. This lasts 5 years so affects the used car market also.
