What the petition asks
To remedy the uncertainty caused by the outcome of the Referendum on U. K. membership of the European Union, that the House of Commons have a motion laid before it by the end of March 2017 “That there shall be an early parliamentary general election.”
The Fixed Term Parliaments Act 2011 provides for this, and if passed by a two-thirds majority, it is the only way for a general election to be held earlier than May 2020, other than a motion of no confidence in HMG passed by a simple majority.
