What the petition asks
The National Archives Government website states the following;
"Contrary to popular belief, it has always been possible to change your name without having to register the change with any official body."
"Contrary to popular belief, it has always been possible to change your name without having to register the change with any official body."
This hinders Police investigations, particularly when it comes to identity theft, sexual offences, bigamy, tax evasion and tracing missing persons.
This petition is to request the creation of a database for all changes of name to be recorded on a register similar to that of the Births, Deaths and Marriages. Any persons who wish to not be included on this register must make an application detailing their reasons for the removal which must be authorised by an appropriate person.
