Petition · past parliament

End the age discrimination on The national minimum wage.

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

Age discrimination needs to stop. At 18 years old we are expected to start job seekers, but if an 18-21 year old does find work they get £5.55. We can do the exact same job as a 21 year old. Also many more young mams and dads are finding it hard to get work where they can afford to support a family.
National minimum wage for 18-21 year olds is currently at £5.55 per hour with an increase to £5.60 in April 2017. This Isn't good enough for young working mothers and fathers trying to afford to live independently. Or even as a student.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. You could start a new petition explaining clearly how you would like the Government to end age discrimination on the National Minimum Wage.

You could also sign the petition below, which asks for the National Minimum Wage for those 18 and over to be increased in line with the National Living Wage.

Increase minimum wage for 18+ year olds to the same as the national living wage
