What the petition asks
Over 5 million citizens live outside of the UK, a large number of which cannot vote as they have been resident abroad for 15 years or more. Moreover, British citizens are not represented in Parliament. Democratically, over 5 million citizens abroad should be represented by at least one MP.
Other countries have created constituencies outside of their national borders, with representation in Parliament through one or more dedicated MPs.
With over 5 million British citizens abroad, of whom a majority is not allowed to vote due to the 15 years residency restriction, it would be democratic to at least ensure that this significant proportion of British citizens is duly represented in Parliament.
