Change the legal rights to identifying information regarding adoptions.

Closed 110 signatures

What the petition asks

Due to the UK Adoption Laws birth families have no legal rights to identifying information regarding adoptions.
The only options is to use an Intermediary Agent or to place your name on the Adoption Contact Register hoping the adoptee has already put their name on it, or will do in the future.
We want to change these laws so that birth families can access the details of their adopted children/siblings.
We propose the following;
The birth family to be able to obtain the adoption certificate, which shows the name the adoptee, was given after adoption including the adoptive parents names.
County the adoption occurred.
In the first instance the biological parents can obtain these documents.
Siblings to also have the rights to apply for the same information.
