Give parents on maternity leave and SPL a status eligible for concessions

Rejected 20 signatures

What the petition asks

Parents on mat leave and shared parental leave typically experience a huge drop in income whilst they are off work caring for their new baby. We would like to encourage arts venues, shops and eateries which currently offer concessions to those on a reduced income to extend these for those on PL.
Concessions are offered at theatres, arts venues, shops, restaurants etc to those on a lower income such as students & pensioners.

State pensioners receive up to £119.30 / week year round, students are allowed to work to boost their income. Stat. maternity pay is 90% of average earnings for 6 weeks, £139.58 for 33 weeks &13 weeks unpaid.

We would like more venues to recognise that those on parental leave have a reduced income and we ask them to extend their concessionary prices accordingly.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Concession prices are the responsibility of individual businesses, not the UK Government and Parliament.
