Make rail travel free for students
Rejected
16 signatures
What the petition asks
Rail travel is extortionate and therefore causes students problems when it comes to visiting home. Money is always an issue as a student and wanting or needing to go home has always had to be a choice depending on this. This should no longer be the case.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Train fares are not set by the UK Government. Fares are set by train operating companies.
You could start a new petition asking Parliament to change the law, to require all transport operators to offer student fares for anyone in full time education, or asking the Government to subsidise rail travel for students.
