Introduce legislation requiring contractors to warranty repairs on roads

Closed 35 signatures

What the petition asks

Potholes are estimated to cost motorists an estimated £730 million every year.

A large percentage of potholes result from utility company and local council works where the restorative works on the road are sub-standard and which often fail prematurely.
The cost of road repairs falls to Local Authorities, who have a legal obligation to keep roads in good repair. If repairs was carried out to a required standard and contractors required by legislation to warranty the repair, then the Local Authorities would have the legal power to hold road repair contractors and utility companies to account, and either claim the cost of subsequent repair from the organisations that undertake the repair, or force them to restore the damage at their cost
