One of the most concerning aspects of the crisis relate to the constant
human rights abuses and violence. Ali Bongo didn't win the elections in August 2016.

https://eeas.europa.eu/election-observation-missions/eom-gabon/421/election-observation-missions-eueoms_en MEPs question President Bongo’s legitimacy, noting that the official 2016 presidential election results are "non-transparent and highly doubtful". They are deeply concerned about the unfolding violence which followed the proclamation of the results. UK must take up matter and trigger the Cotonou agreement and E.U Resolution on Rule of Law crisis in Gabon adopted on 1st of February 2017.
