What the petition asks
The cost of rail travel in the UK grows way above inflation and is several times more expensive than in neighboring countries. Fairs are unfathomably complex and the UK government continues to subsidize profit making rail franchise operators. We tried nationalization before and that didn't work
In 2012 the UK government transferred ownership of English & Welsh Canals and (most) Rivers to The Canals and Rivers Trust a "Third way" not-for-profit company, with charitable status.
Our railways are primarily a service relied on by millions, privatization has not worked for consumers. Time to try something else, with fairs set by a clear formula of time & distance, & consumers and investment are primary and profit is no longer taken out of the railways.
Lets try the same with railways?
