Discuss measures to increase notifiable disease vaccination uptake.

Closed 47 signatures

What the petition asks

Most childhood diseases are preventable. The NHS strongly encourages parents to vaccinate via education. However, a small minority of parents refuse. With the number of susceptible children increasing, these diseases are returning, putting lives at risk. New tactics are required to increase uptake.
Other governments have intervened to increase uptake:
Australia - withholding childcare payments until vaccinated (tinyurl.com/jrk6ll5)
USA - specific vaccination requirements before attending school (tinyurl.com/zswec56)

Discussing and adopting similar approaches in addition to education should increase uptake. Exemptions on health grounds should also be considered.

MMR severe reactions: <1 in 1 million
Measles deaths: before 1980 - 2,600,000 per year, 2015 <135,000.
