What the petition asks
Grant local authorities more power to allow for the immediate removal of illegal encampments, protecting the rights and homes of the static community. Travellers to be forced to clear their own waste, instead of leaving it to us tax payers.
Recreation grounds, Community Centres and other public land has been targeted heavily in the West Midlands region during the last 12 months, with certain recreation grounds being affected 7 times in a 6 month period.
Birmingham City Council spent £299,472.16 removing illegal travellers and their waste during 2015 and 2016. This is on the increase, with the Parks Department, in conjunction with Environmental Officers, spending £52,836.31 in 2015 and £87,001.53 in 2016; an increase of £34.165.22.
