What the petition asks
Goldthorpe serves approximately 300 claimants. The office serves Bolton on Dearne, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Barnburgh and other smaller hamlets around the Dearne Valley. Claimants will be transferred to Mexborough which for some will mean 2 bus journeys.

The proposal will hurt claimants. Claimants will be forced to travel further to get help to look for work. They will be forced to pay more to get help to look for work. Having to travel further will put the most vulnerable at significant risk of sanctions.
The closure will hurt staff. PCS union have identified that staff are being told they must move, lengthened commutes will incur increased travel costs additional car parking costs. extending travel time, impacting on the right to a family life.
The closure will hurt the community. Small local businesses depend on staff and claimants to spend money in order to survive and without this trade will be forced to close.
