No rise for self employed national insurance rate in 2017 budget

What the petition asks

Self employed tradespeople are currently faced with rising travel costs, insurance costs, living costs and inevitably a drop in living standards. Not to mention the cost of constantly growing certifications that have to be renewed every 5 years. Lifting NI contributions doesn't serve those people.

CSCS, GasSafe, CPCS, IPAF, PASMA, SSSTS, the list goes on. Not to mention public liability insurance, the cost of motor insurance, cost of travel and fuel expenses. Those who earn the lowest are already hit hard by all these required things that can cost thousands over a 5 year period. A further rise in National Insurance only shows the greed of the conservative club.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The Chancellor has announced today (15 March) that the proposed changes to National Insurance for self-employed people won’t go ahead.
