Give the Public easy access to motorway CCTV cameras
Rejected
19 signatures
What the petition asks
The CCTV camera feeds from Traffic England and Traffic Scotland can only be accesed via their official websites, which are slow, cumbersome and not user-friendly. The Public should be allowed to create bookmarks/shortcuts to their favourite camera, or list of cameras, quickly and easily.
Traffic Wales already provide this service, but England and Scotland don't. During consultation, Highways England were unable to provide any legimate good reason for not allowing the Public to bookmark specific cameras or set up their own websites that show the live feeds in a more user-friendly format.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The UK Government is responsible for Highways England, but Traffic Scotland is the responsibility of the Scottish Government.
You could start a new petition asking for changes to the services provided by Traffic England.
For the service in Scotland, you may be able to start a petition to the Scottish Parliament about this. You can contact the clerks of the Public Petitions Committee for advice about this by emailing [email protected].
