What the petition asks
Being an MP is a full time job, as is being an editor of a national newspaper. It is inappropriate and dishonest for an MP to claim his salary taking up a full time working position for the government whilst also being editor of one of the largest news publications.
It is also a conflict of interest. It is one thing politicians allowing the media to communicate their views, it is another for them to directly control large sections of the media.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
