What the petition asks
Corrosive liquids can be bought easily in DIY stores or online and disguised in drinks bottles. In law, a stabbing is an attempted murder, while an acid attack is only GBH. There's no specific offence regarding acid attacks, even though the impact on the victim can be far worse than a stabbing.
As reported by the BBC, there has been a sharp rise in attacks involving corrosive fluids in London over the last four years.
Since the start of 2017 there have been 49 crimes where "corrosive fluids" were thrown with "intent to cause grievous bodily harm" or to "cause an explosion".
