What the petition asks
Renting properties whether, it be council or private are becoming more & more expensive, with the living minimum wage at £7.20ph (on average) this makes living an impossible task. More & more families are left with a decision to either pay their rent or feed their family.
Rent costs are forever increasing yet the minimum wage isn't. with the rent increasing to the amount a mortgage would cost, families are forced to choose between feeding their family or pay the rent, with failure to pay rent, evictions have soared and so has stress and suicide. an average person on minimum wage £7.20ph 40hrs a week = £288 x 4 weeks=£1,152 - tax 20% basic rate = £960 deduct rent, minimum start £450= £510 council tax average £75pm = £435 this is what is left each month on average.
