What the petition asks
Many dog owners in the UK are unsure where to turn when looking for a trainer for initial puppy training OR for help when rectifying issues with an older dog. There are many people calling themselves dog trainers/behaviourists with no recognised or formal training and qualifications.
Pack theory and methods based on dominance have been discarded by many leading scientists who have researched into learning theory and dog behaviour.
Averisive methods often cause both physical and psychological damage; dogs learn quicker and remember things for longer when taught with positive reinforcement methods.
Anyone trading as a trainer should be approved and licenced by a recognised dog training association. Existing associations with codes of conduct include; APDT, IMDT, ABTC, ADTB
