What the petition asks
Before and during the 2017 general election the Parliamentary Petition site closed. It was not reinstated until September, resulting in four months when citizens were denied a mechanism for raising concerns.
There is no reason why the mechanism for submitting or signing petitions should be closed
There is no reason why the mechanism for submitting or signing petitions should be closed
Separate the running of the petitions site from the reviewing of petitions. The first should be available to citizens at all times (with the possible exception of during the actual election campaign), the second is reasonably the role of the petitions committee.
