What the petition asks
The Partially Hydrogenated Oil family (PHO's) are a common food additive known to cause high Cholesterol, a condition which can cause stroke and heart attack. They have been banned from food production in several countries including America from 2018 and we are calling for a UK ban.
PHO's are a Transfat. You will find them listed on the ingredients of most processed food including bread and pastry products under these names E471, E472, Mono and di-glycerides of fatty acids Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated fats. The British Heart Foundation says: “Avoid wherever possible. They can increase cholesterol in your blood." Heart disease and stroke, to which high cholesterol contributes, are ranked in the top 5 most common killers only beaten to the number 1 spot by cancer.
