All residents of the United Kingdom to be issued with a Biometric Identity Card.

Closed 197 signatures

What the petition asks

The introduction of Biometric Identity Cards would reduce time and costs to Government agencies in checking legal residents and citizens’ status, make ID checks by Police, Immigration and other official bodies impartial and puts every entitled resident/citizen on a level playing field.
There are currently several ID card schemes in the UK including; Proof of age card, 'Gov.UK Verify', (described as an 'Online ID card), Passports and driving licenses, but not everyone has one and all of these are voluntary and not all are Biometric.
A National Biometric ID card would streamline the system, reduce costs and protect the law abiding legal residents and citizens in the UK whilst at the same time making life more difficult for those that choose to defraud or harm us.
