What the petition asks
In my case, I have found that it is a common theme to find that "gelatine" is an ingredient to many confectionery items. This itself presents a grave concern, as I am a follower of the Islamic faith, who does not eat pork. Thus, failure to specify the type of gelatine is misleading.
The rationale of ingredients being displayed on the back of food packaging is that we are in a position to exercise our autonomy. So, we can make an informed decision of whether or not it is something we wish to consume. This detail should be a basic requirement for all product packaging and be given the attention similar to allergy warnings. This applies to many sectors of society Muslims, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and sects of Christianity. Therefore, essential in such a diverse society.
