What the petition asks
The Environmental Agency's neglect of the mill gate at Townsford Mill has left the river low, overgrown and rat-infested, and the area looking derelict, depriving residents and visitors of the key amenity of the town

Local authorities have powers to require clean up of land when its condition is adversely affecting the amenity of the local area. If it is a public health problem, such as a rat infestation, it is the responsibility of the environmental health team at the local authority to investigate and decide whether there was a need to take further action.
