Make all Ministers live on the Current National Minimum Wage for a month.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

Boris Johnson's comments on the salary of £141,000 being 'not enough to live on'
After Boris's comments, I feel that he and his fellow ministers should try 'living' on what is deemed the minimum wage so he can see for himself how much (or little) it is possible to live on. I'm on under £13,500 a year, he should try that for size.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for MPs' pay. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.

You can find out how to contact IPSA here:

http://www.theipsa.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/

The extra pay that Ministers receive is set by law, so Parliament can change it. You could start a new petition calling for ministerial salaries to be reduced, but Ministers would still be entitled to the MPs' salary set by IPSA.
