Petition · past parliament

Ban the sale and consumption of alcohol in all Parliamentary buildings.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Parliament is a place of work for Members of Parliament, and alcohol consumption on the premises has long been associated with inappropriate behaviour, missed votes, wrong votes, violence, abuse and sexual harassment. No other place of work would tolerate this.
Additionally, this highly subsidised set-up has been used by MPs to entertain journalists, lobbyists, and others with questionable motives, and even more questionable right to be treated at the taxpayers expense.
Recent events have made an overhaul of the system a matter of urgency, and individual MPs - as well as the government as a whole - should be mindful of their reputation.
