Remove date of birth from the Companies House open register.

Closed 157 signatures

What the petition asks

Having recently been a victim of identity theft, it transpired they collected my contact details from the open Companies House register.

It appears easy to set up a credit account for online retailers using name, date of birth and address.

Leaving 3.9m company directors open to identity theft.
We want to petition the government to remove the date of birth field from the Companies House register in order to make it slightly harder for criminals to undertake simple identity theft such as this.

As cyber crime becomes more prevalent and larger businesses tighten their security, small and medium businesses (and their owners) will become an easier target.
