Petition · past parliament

Make self employed uber drivers obtain at least 85% of their earnings.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Currently Uber charges it’s self employed drivers 25%. From the remaining 75% we must pay for fuel, taxes, insurance and to finance the car. This leaves us with little funds to live off and makes it difficult to pay off bills and provide for our families.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Fee agreements between self-employed workers and private companies like Uber are the responsibility of the people and organisations involved, not the UK Parliament or Government. Employment law doesn’t cover self-employed people in most cases because they are their own boss.

You can find out more about the employment status of self-employed people here:

https://www.gov.uk/employment-status/selfemployed-contractor

You could start a new petition about something the UK Government or Parliament are responsible for. For example, you could start a new petition asking to change the law to make sure that all self-employed workers are paid a minimum wage for the hours they work.
